Thursday night my Dad and Niles dug out a fire pit and gathered wood so we could have a fire and roast marshmallows. Kendra and I picked up strawberry marshmallows along with the original...yummy strawberry smores!
The highlights of the evening? My mother yelling YAHOO at the top of her lung to show the kids she was the queen of the echo. It is truly a gift-the lung capacity my mother carries at the rip out age of....I guess I shouldn't give that away...the ripe old age of "Gramma" status! My brother Rob was not going to let that opportunity slide giving it his best yells. All five kids stared at there elders with a distinct look of wonder. NOT as to their inspiring cat calls but as to who these screaming nuts really are and questioning their genetic link.
Hundreds of lightning bugs spot the wheat fields behind the house. Dad has mowed a walking path along the side of the field where Rob and kendra risked their lives (you can die from to many mosquito bites I hear!) to catch one in a jar only to find the kids had all fallen asleep before they returned with their capture. The Coyote's joined them a half a field away. Their distinct howling is eerily cool.
I must say the view of the stars here makes it seem as though there are millions more in the Minnesota sky than there are in the Florida sky. I tried to tell the kids is it simple because we are in the country and it's darker here than in the middle of Jacksonville. Niles told me it's because there is cleaner air in Minnesota...except that that rotten cow smell!
