I went to let Jack outside for his morning duties at about 7am and I notice these amazing spider webbing in the corner of the yard. You can get a really good look at them in the early morning because they are heavy with dew. By the time the sun is full you've missed your chance. So I run in to get the camera and go back out in my PJ's, barefooted..good thing our back yard is fenced.. and start clicking. The dew was already starting to fade so I only had a minute or two...oh the pressure of a good picture, this was a good as it got for the webs. They like big intricate bulls eyes, and here you can see two of them..

Then I started looking for the talented seamstress and found this...What in the world?...

About this time Malcolm's comes out and say, "Mom, what are you doing out here and where are you shoes?" I showed him the spider and he said, "Oh, yeah..that's a crab spider. They look just like a crab, but they won't hurt you. You can touch it if you want."

Touching this thing was not even an option, I just wanted a picture or two but I can tell you I am ever impressed with Malcolm's knowledge of creation. As a parent I wonder where he learns this stuff cuz I know it's not from me, I had no idea what this spider was, but he did. Could it be that he is learning it at school? What else is he learning about that I am unaware of? AND how in the world did he know that I could touch it? He may have heard that or worse maybe he found out by experimentally touching one and finding there was no consequences such a bleeding from the eyes an hour later or his skin falling off. Note to self, talk to Malcolm about touching foreign bodies...of any kind!

I have to tell you, he was right. This thing looks exactly like a little crab. I wonder how that detours it's predators...maybe they are allergic to shellfish?
